BadgerCare Plus

The BadgerCare Plus program is a government-sponsored health insurance program that provides coverage for the poor. The basic plan costs $130 per month. It covers 10 doctor’s visits, one inpatient hospital stay, five outpatient hospital visits, and five emergency room visits. The program also offers discounts on prescription drugs and generic versions of common medications. The program was signed into law by former Governor Jim Doyle, who was not re-elected.

BadgerCare Plus was originally implemented in 1999 as part of Wisconsin’s efforts to provide health insurance for low-income residents.
